Importing Data Into RUIS
-
Transferring data between systems is often seen as a problematic task, involving many hours of manual data manipulation. RUIS solves this problem by providing an easy import file data structure and data translation interface tools that do not demand a high level of user editing.

Import Facility CMIS Timetable Data
The Facility CMIS database is necessarily complex - attempting to produce room utilisation data directly from the CMIS database would be a very challenging task. RUIS takes the strain of this by providing a data translation interface that will deliver timetable and room booking data for space utilisation reporting in three easy steps:
A. Export Rooms And Events data from Facility CMIS using pre-defined List Definitions
B. Run the Facility CMIS / RUIS Data Translation Interface to convert the data to RUIS file formats.
C. Import the converted files into RUIS. It's as easy as A-B-C! -
Transfer of CELCAT timetable data to RUIS employs an almost identical method to that of Facility CMIS data. Pre-defined export templates are loaded into CELCAT from which tab-delimited text files are written. These files are processed by the CELCAT / RUIS Data Translation Interface to convert to RUIS file format. The processed files can then be imported into RUIS.

Extracting data from Scientia Enterprise is achieved by using a Data Translation Interface attached to a COM-enabled Syllabus Plus image. Location Groups are defined in Syllabus Plus that specify room attribute information such as Campus, Building and Room Type. The Data Translation Interface then connects to the image and writes all the required timetabled Activities and room bookings to text files, ready for loading into RUIS. The interface will also work with COM-enabled Syllabus Plus Classic images.

Most room audits are undertaken by recording attendance in rooms at particular times, then entering the data into Excel workbooks. These data can easily be converted into the standard tab-delimited text file format used by RUIS. Automation is also simple; a room audit data translation interface has already been built at one UK university, and a RUIS-compatible audit data workbook can be provided on request.

Data from other sources, such as space databases, student record systems, and other timetabling software, can be imported using standard tab-delimited text files.
